🎨 Canva’s Glow-Up: From Slides and Thank-Yous to Full-On App Builder

A lot of our educators use Canva for everything from classroom flyers to presentations - and have undoubtedly noticed the wave of new features from their recent update. I won’t run through all of them (you can check them out here), but I have enjoyed the ability to seamlessly add whiteboards (and other doc types) into slide decks. Super useful for collaborative lessons or brainstorming on the fly.

But the real surprise? Canva's new AI-powered "Code For Me" tool.

I had a recent use case that gave me an excuse to play with this new feature to see how fast I could create something. Here’s the exact prompt I used - no edits, no tweaks:

"I'd like an app that is tailored to 5th grade students struggling with math facts. The app should present single-digit multiplication and division questions in a fun and engaging manner. My student really likes robots, so any way those could be incorporated would be awesome."

🤯 And just like that, it built me this: https://stemhub.my.canva.site/

Getting it from Canva to a webpage took literally three steps:

  1. Use in a design

  2. Publish Website

  3. Click Publish

Is it perfect? No. Did it take three minutes to build something engaging that met a real need (it's actually taken me longer to write this post than build a functioning app!)? YES. And that’s a win in my book. 🎉

Have you used the "Code For Me" feature? I would love to hear some other K-12 use cases!

And after implementing the AIs recommended edits...

I can enhance the robot math app with some additional features to make it even more engaging for 5th graders! Here are some ideas:

  1. Would you like to add different difficulty levels so students can progress as they improve?

  2. How about adding robot customization where students can earn parts to build their own robot?

  3. Should I include a "learning mode" that explains the math concepts when students get answers wrong?
