STEM Symposium for Educators

Three-day Courses:

Each course is a deep dive into one of the following topics for all three days.

  • Chromebooks and Google Suite in the Classroom (for educators of all grades)

  • 3D Printing & Digital Design Start Up - Launching your own digital design and fabrication lab (middle/high)

  • Making to Learn, Learning to Make (all grades, especially K-8)

  • Starter STEM Fun/Elementary Coding (elementary/middle)

  • VEX Robotics (middle/high)

Lunch Sessions:

Lunch Sessions:

One hour lunch sessions will feature new speakers each day. If you enroll in a course, you will automatically be part of the lunch sessions. You may register to only attend one to three of the lunches.

  • Tuesday: Computer Science in Oregon

  • Wednesday: Mystery Science (elementary) + Maker Meet-Up (all grades)

  • Thursday: Quick Talks from Local Educators

    • Let us know if you want to apply to present during this time.​

What's Included?

  • Free high-quality professional development

    • $50 deposit is required but it will be reimbursed when you show up or cancel at least 3 days before the event.

    • 96% of 2018 attendees said the event was "well worth" their time.

  • Stipend: Update: educators who sign up as of 7/17/19 will be put on the wait-list for the stipend.

    • $250 stipend was available for the first 50 local teachers who signed up and attend the full 3 days.

      • Eligible counties: Gilliam, Hood River, Klickitat, Sherman, Skamania, Wasco, & Wheeler.

      • We will email registrants within a few days of you signing up to let you know if you got the stipend or are on the wait list.

  • Meals are provided (breakfast and lunch)

  • Credit options: (choose one)

    • PD Units processed by the Columbia Gorge ESD

    • Graduate credit through Western Oregon University. 1 Grad credit or 3 Professional Development credits. $20 enrollment fee + $60/credit to WOU. You may register while at the Symposium. Does require some additional work. ED 638 Syllabus   ED 805 Syllabus

    • Clock Hours through ESD 112 (Washington Teachers). Simply register through the link above (not PD Enroller). The STEM Hub will certify your attendance and ESD 112 will issue the hours. Will involve a small fee to ESD 112; some school districts cover that.

  • Mileage reimbursement is available to: 

    • Teachers in Baker, Grant, Harney, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa counties (through GO-STEM).

    • Other districts may offer mileage reimbursement to attend PD. Check with your District Office.
