🕵️ Student Lesson from the NLP: AI or Not!
Looking for a quick, engaging way to help students think critically about AI-generated content? The News Literacy Project has put together a great lesson designed for middle and high school students (lesson could be easily be modified for younger students) that explores the impact of generative AI on the information landscape.

This lesson dives into how AI tools have changed how we evaluate visual evidence online. Students start by filling out a K-H-W-L chart (What I Know, How I Know It, What I Want to Know, and What I Learned), then take a short quiz to practice spotting AI-generated images. They'll also learn some practical tips for determining whether an image is authentic or AI-generated. The lesson wraps up with a reflection on how these tools have shifted our understanding of visual evidence.
The icing on the cake is that the NLP has designed this lesson to be ready to go with minimal prep. The slides include educator instructions in the notes, so you can dive right in without spending extra time on planning.
This lesson is a great way to help students build essential critical thinking skills, like detecting misinformation and practicing verification.
