STEM Bites
Oregon’s regional STEM Hubs have come together to bring engaging, hands-on science and engineering learning ideas to educators across the state! Hands on science can be challenging to do during distance learning, these bites are designed to help. Each “bite” can be done at home, in a classroom, or in a program space. Bites primarily use simple materials that families already have or can readily acquire; we know how hard it can be to get specialized materials to students.

Maker Club Curriculum & Notebook
This curriculum introduces children in grades 4-8 to the maker mindset, aiming to inspire creativity, enhance problem-solving skills, and encourage perseverance. The activities expose children to design thinking and various "making" activities, using publicly available resources and original lesson plans and supplemental documents by Jacob Field, with support from previous STEM Hub Director, Christy Christopher. Funded by the US 2020 grant from Citizen Schools and the Oregon Department of Education STEM Hub, it was tested in 2018-19 at nine sites in the Columbia Gorge region, including schools, a library, and a migrant summer school. Feedback from these tests led to slight revisions after the 2019-20 school year.
